CBSE Class 12 is the Senior Secondary board examination taken by over 17 lakh students each year across Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams. The result matters enormously: it determines CUET university admission scores, and it is the qualifying credential for JEE, NEET, and most undergraduate courses.

Unlike Class 10, Class 12 currently runs once a year (February–April). Your subject combination determines your stream in practice — CBSE does not issue a separate stream certificate. Choose your subjects carefully in Class 11 because you will carry that combination into the board exam.

How CBSE Class 12 boards work

Confirm your subject combination in Class 11 — You carry the same combination into Class 12 boards. Changing subjects later is difficult, so choose around your actual career or entrance-exam goal.
Complete practicals and internal assessments (November–January) — Practical exams, projects, and internal assessment marks count towards your final subject result. Do not leave them for the last week.
Download your admit card and appear for board exams (February–April) — The datesheet is typically released in October–November. Board exams run February to early April for most subjects.
Check your result and download marksheet (May) — Class 12 results are released in May. Download your digital marksheet from DigiLocker immediately after declaration.
