CBSE Admission & Registration
CBSE does not admit students directly — you join a CBSE-affiliated school, and the school registers you for the board exams. Here is how registration works across Class 9 to Class 12, what to double-check, and where the official process lives.
How CBSE registration works
- Join a CBSE-affiliated school — Admission happens at the school, not at CBSE. Confirm the school is currently affiliated before you enrol (you can verify this on the official affiliation portal).
- Class 9 registration — Your school registers you with CBSE in Class 9. This record carries into the Class 10 board exam, so your name, date of birth, and subjects must be correct at this stage.
- Class 11 registration — A fresh registration is done in Class 11 for the Senior Secondary cycle, with your chosen stream and subject combination.
- Exam form (LOC) — Before each board exam the school submits the List of Candidates (LOC) to CBSE with your final subjects and fees.
What to verify early
- Name & date of birth
- Must match your records exactly — board corrections later are slow and limited.
- Subjects & stream
- Confirm your registered subjects and stream are what you intend to sit for.
- Private candidates
- CBSE permits private candidates in defined categories; check the official private-candidate rules for eligibility.
Official CBSE portals
- CBSE official website — Board notifications, circulars, and contacts
- CBSE affiliation portal (verify a school) — Confirm a school is currently CBSE-affiliated
This is a free help center, not CBSE: For official registration, fees, and corrections, use the official CBSE portals above or ask your school. This site only explains the process; it cannot register you or change your records.
Frequently asked questions
Can I register for the CBSE board exam on my own?
Regular students are registered by their CBSE-affiliated school, not directly. CBSE does allow private candidates in specific categories — check the official CBSE private-candidate rules for current eligibility.
When does CBSE registration happen?
Your school registers you in Class 9 (carried into the Class 10 exam) and again in Class 11 for the Senior Secondary cycle. Verify your name, date of birth, and subjects each time.
